Another cop allegedly involved in the EDSA "huli-dap" incident on September 1 has surrendered to the Philippine National Police (PNP), authorities said on Saturday, October 4.
Senior Inspector Oliver Villanueva surrendered to the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Thursday, October 2, a report on GMA's 24 Oras said on Saturday.
Villanueva and at least 9 other policemen were identified as suspects in an alleged EDSA robbery and kidnapping incident that went viral on Twitter. A Twitter user snapped a photo of armed men, a van, and a sedan surrounding an SUV. (READ: #AnimatED: PNP scalawags and squabbles)
At least two of the policemen suspects have pending cases for a similar crime in 2011, National Police Commission (Napolcom) Vice Chairman and Executive Officer Eduardo Escueta revealed earlier.
Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II earlier urged those who are still at large to surrender for their own good.
According to the GMA report, Villanueva was with his brother Mayor Nilo Villanueva of Mabini, Batangas, and a lawyer when he surrendered. He is under restrictive custody at the CIDG headquarters
