Renato Reyes Jr. believes that “vested interests” has won over the remarkable track record and exemplary work of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Judy Taguiwalo.

The Commission on Appointments (CA) have rejected her on uncanny grounds and Reyes believes that it holds this power because of the faulty government system Philippines currently has.
While he believes that President Rodrigo Duterte is also accountable because the latter could have urged the supermajority in Congress to re-confirm Taguiwalo, Reyes also recognizes that the current system hinders the implementation of change.

In spite Taguiwalo’s rejection, Reyes looks forward to working with the DSWD Secretary in pursuing “genuine change” outside the corrupt system of politics.

In his full post on Facebook, Reyes said,

News sites have reported the Commission on Appointments has rejected the appointment of DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo.
Once again, vested interests and bureaucrat capitalism triumph over good governance, pro-people policies and genuine service.

This one is on Duterte as it is on the CA. The rejection exposes the utter bankruptcy of the current ruling system and the reactionary character of the Duterte regime. The President could have asked his allies in Congress to confirm Judy yet he again chose to “bend the knee” to pork barrel lawmakers, neoliberal economic managers and the militarists in his cabinet. He chose business-as-usual, reactionary politics over genuine change. Totoong bulok ang sistema at ang namamahala dito. We thank Judy for her service and look forward to working with her in other arenas in the struggle for genuine change. #SalamatJudy at tuloy ang laban!”
